Oxford Cryosystems Wins Export Award category at Made in England Awards 2014
Catapult portfolio business, Oxford Cryosystems, has been named as the winner of the Export Award category at the 2014 Made in England Awards. The awards, sponsored by Grant Thornton and held in association with South East Midlands Local Enterprise Partnership (SEMLEP), recognised those companies that are continually investing and innovating for the benefit of their customers, stakeholders and the wider UK economy. Insider's specialist publications editor Philip Cunliffe said: "The good news is the UK economy has coughed and spluttered back into life and the medicine is manufacturing and tonight's list of shortlisted and winning companies demonstrates we're getting better at it and we're exporting our products across the world."
With well over 90% of its sales being exports throughout Europe, the US, South America and Asia, Oxford Cryosystems was a natural choice for the 2014 Export Award. The judges were impressed with the fact that the company has focused on sales support, working closely with overseas agents and offering training to local engineers abroad.
Oxford Cryosystems is a market-leading UK manufacturer of highly specialised scientific instruments and software. The company originated in a laboratory of Oxford University in the 1980s and has since grown into a high-tech, commercial organisation with three distinct product lines, twenty staff and an annual turnover in the millions of pounds. Science remains at the heart of the Oxford Cryosystems business. Its very-low-temperature cooling devices enable researchers to analyse the structure of molecules – and thus discover important new properties. In addition, new applications are constantly being found for Oxford Cryosystems technology, such as cooling high-precision electronic equipment.
“We’re delighted to be recognised by the judges as one of the region’s leading Exporters”, said Richard Glazer, Managing Director of Oxford Cryosystems. “Scientific research is a global market by its very nature, and we are proud that we have been able create a growing international customer base by providing high quality products with excellent and dedicated sales and customer support.
We are particularly proud however that whilst exports account for over 90% of our sales, over 90% of our suppliers are local to us within the UK. This award is testament to the hard work and dedication displayed by the fantastic team at Oxford Cryosystems, so I would like to congratulate them on this achievement.”
Oxford Cryosystems has also been nominated in 2 categories in the upcoming Oxfordshire Business Awards, including “Export” and “Small Business.”
