SwabTech

SwabTech developed an automated Surgical Swab Washer to enhance blood recovery and reuse during high blood loss surgical procedures. SwabTech's patented Surgical Swab-Washer automated a process currently performed by hand, recovering blood from swabs used in the hospital operating theatre. The blood could then be processed and transfused back into the patient, an established procedure used in a wide range of operations associated with high blood loss, known to be a cost-effective means to improve clinical outcomes.

SwabTech was formed with the support of TRUSTECH, the North West NHS Innovation Hub, as a spin-out of three North West NHS Foundation Trusts; the University Hospital of South Manchester, Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh and Central Manchester University Hospitals.
