Crowdcube success for Clin-e-cal

University of Manchester spin-out Clin-e-cal has raised more than £130,000 on Crowdcube to fund the commercialisation and scale-up of its smart inhaler monitoring technology.

The company has developed two free smartphone apps – the Rafi-Tone to help children to take their inhaler medication as prescribed and the Clip-Tone to help adults monitor and improve their inhaler technique.

Both use Clin-e-cal's SoundResponse technology, which analyses sound signals from the inhaler device. The apps then provide real-time feedback to users.

Clin-e-cal chief executive Dr Elizabeth Crawford said: "It is fantastic to have received such great support from the crowd; we exceeded our original funding target by 264 per cent.

"We believe that our technology can make a huge difference to both inhaler technique and respiratory disease outcomes, and it is very exciting to be able to move forwards and make our technology available to more people across the world."
